This resource is a comprehension activity for year 2. There are three differentiated booklets on the story of The First Christmas. The middle ability booklet is based on the KS1 SATs reading paper. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘where,’ ‘who’ and ‘why’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. The activity is also laid out in a similar way to the SATs booklets, with four pages with short written extracts to read and 5 questions per page. There is a colour and black & white version of each of the three booklets. Answers are also included. PDF file format. This resource contains 4 comprehension activities suitable for using with year 1 or lower ability year 2. The theme in this pack is the Christmas story, which is split into four separate comprehensions: Angel Gabriel visits Mary The birth of Jesus The shepherds visit Jesus The Wise Men visit Jesus Each comprehension contains a short piece of text with words that can be sounded out. There are three trickier words which have pictures to help children work out what they say. The text is followed by 5 simple questions. There is also a PowerPoint included in the pack containing a slide for each text so that you can go through the comprehensions before the children complete them. Each slide also contains 3 words that are trickier to sound out, with sound buttons underneath them. PDF file format and editable Microsoft word format included in the price.

This is an assembly for teaching children about Lent. It is suitable for ages 5-11. The theme is ‘giving something up’ and it is based on a Bible story about Jesus. The 4 page pdf assembly plan is highly interactive, with plenty of opportunity for volunteers to take part or give answers or ideas. It includes questions to ask the children with answers. There is an introduction, a discussion, a Bible story, a further discussion and a final prayer/reflection. This resource is a comprehension activity based on the year 6 reading comprehension SATs paper. The theme for the comprehension is the story of Jesus’ arrest before Good Friday, which I have rewritten to resemble the style of the reading paper. I have included 3 differentiated levels. The Higher Ability level (781 words) is similar to the SATs paper, whilst the Middle Ability (654 words) and Lower Ability (564 words) use slightly simplified wording in the reading and question booklet. Each level contains a 3 page reading booklet and an accompanying 4 page question booklet, which contains a range of questions based on past papers. There are also example answers. The preview pages show one page from the higher ability comprehension booklet and question booklet and one page from the higher ability black & white booklet. PDF file format. This is a 4 page plan for an assembly (pdf) on Ash Wednesday, with a focus on the theme of consequences for our actions. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! In this assembly, children listen to an Old Testament story. The plan finishes by introducing children to what happens on Ash Wednesday and how this is linked to the story the children have heard and to their own lives.
